I am an independent consultant. Most of my time is spent on XML and electronic commerce projects. I also do work on SGML and HTML. I write and present tutorials on these subjects at GCA, Seybold and other conferences worldwide.

Please feel free to contact me about your project.

Int'l WWW Conference Committee

I am proud to have been a member of the International World Wide Conference Committee -- a Swiss organization devoted to promoting the World Wide Web through its conference series. The series started in 1994, at CERN, the birthplace of the Web. Robert Cailliau and Tim Berners-Lee, the inventors of the World Wide Web, hosted the original conference. The second conference was co-hosted by NCSA, the inventors of Mosaic, the graphical browser that accelerated the global adoption of the World Wide Web. Subsequent conferences have been held in Darmstadt, Boston, Paris, Santa Clara, Brisbane, Toronto, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong.

8th International WWW Conference

I was local Co-chair of the 8th International World Wide Web Conference (Toronto, May 1999).

Commerce One

My main contract between 1997 and 2000 was with Commerce One for whom I was the World Wide Web Consortium Advisory Committee Representative. I represented Commerce One in the XML Schema Working Group. I am a co-author of both Schema for Object-oriented XML (SOX) submissions and the W3C XML Schema.

CommerceNet

CommerceNet selected me to chair the eCo Framework Project. The eCo Working Group. is developing an interoperable electronic commerce architecture and data library.

Cover of book

I am co-author, with Yuri Rubinsky, of SGML on the Web: Small Steps Beyond HTML. This book is an introduction to SGML for HTML users. It requires no prior knowledge of SGML; it builds on the reader's knowledge of HTML. The authors explain how to overcome limitations of SGML. The CD-ROM includes an SGML publishing toolkit and allows users to actually work with SGML.

As some of you know, I now have a Fuji Digital Camera and have been collecting pictures of some colleagues with whom I work in the publishing, structured markup and standards arenas.

Schedule of speaking engagements and meetings.
